Customer Reviews about Garretts Bodyworks:

My insurance company chose this garage for a bodyshop repair. I was called in to the garage for a damage assessment on 14th April and they said they would be in touch. I was called again on 21st May to take the car in for repair. This is 5 weeks later and the reason given is that they didnt have an automatic courtesy car which was supplied as part of the insurance agreement. When I took my car in on 21st May one garage staff member spent 10-15 minutes checking the outside and inside for his damage sheet and noticed many different scratches, blemishes and stains all around the car which he marked on his sheet. He presented this to me and said "sign here." A professional garage would either go around with the customer or let the customer check the car afterwards against the staff members form before asking the customer to sign. The courtesy car given is a 1 litre Toyota Aygo. My car is a 7 seater 2 litre Renault Scenic as I have a family and I am transporting bikes etc around in the boot. The brief was "you will save money on petrol." Again, a professional garage would have a wide range of different cars to match the car being repaired instead of giving everyone a 1 litre small car from their fleet of small cars. I expect the company are having cash flow problems and are saving money at the customers expense but if the customers are not happy the garage will quickly fail. The garage could not give me any sort of timescale for when the car would be repaired and I received a text 2 days later on 23rd May to say that the parts had been ordered and would be delivered on 25th May. The garage knew they were going to do the job 6 weeks ago and had all this time to order the parts which could have been on the premises when my car was taken in, but this was not done. This is probably a cash flow problem but again is totally unprofessional. I received a call on Saturday 26th May at 8.30 am to say that the car was repaired and that I should come to collect before 12. I explained that I couldnt go this morning, you are closed tomorrow and bank holiday Monday so it will have to be Tuesday. The staff member insisted that I take the car back this morning. I received 3 further calls that morning between 11.30 and 11.45 which I could not pick up as I was at work, then a text message to say if I do not bring the car back before 12 there will be further charges for keeping the courtesy car. I was getting a little annoyed with the garage at this stage and when I returned home I looked at all the paperwork from the insurance company and the garage. The agreement between the insurance company and the garage states that the garage has to return the customers car and collect the courtesy car. At no time did the garage say this during any of our meetings, texts or phone calls and on Tuesday morning they were still asking me to go to Canvey to collect. This is because they do not want to do the job the insurance company is paying them to do, but are happy to qlet the customer run around to save the garage staff time and money. This is one of the worst garage experiences I have had and there are some bad ones out there but unprofessional I think is a very kind description. The insurance companies should think twice about sending repairs to Garrets. Their final work is good, but having a company these days, isnt just about doing the job, it is about all round customer care. As a disabled driver the company saw me in April and had 5 weeks to ask me any specific questions regarding the courtesy car or adaptions etc, but nothing was mentioned. I was driving around for a week advertising on the sides of the car that Garrets were voted bodyshop of the year. Its funny because I cant find this anywhere on the internet. Maybe the owners mum called and voted because it wasnt me and judging from the real reviews of the compay, it isnt other customers either.
